Between Pangaeo and Menikio is the Aggitis river gorge which has a total length of 15 kilometers (9.32 miles). Some scientists argue that the gorge is the result of a violent geological rearrangement that a million years ago let the waters of the prehistoric Prasias Lake of the Drama Valley pass and consequently created the gorge.
The gorge along with the flow of the river, over time created many caves, arches and openings resulting in an almost natural wonder of immense beauty. The dramatic scenery fueled the imagination of the locals and according to tradition they believed that the gorge was the gateway to Hades where Pluto took Persephone to the Underworld.
The vegetation of the area includes many varieties of laurel, willow, sycamore, and sycamore. While there are plenty of grouse, pigeons, woodpeckers, wrens and blackbirds. Various raptors such as hawks and peregrine falcons are also very characteristic and together make up a magnificent landscape.
Agitis is an ideal river for rafting. With a total length of 15 meters, there are two routes, one for experienced beamers and the other for beginners as well as for children over 10 years old. There is also a restaurant in the area, while the cave of Alistrati is very close by, a unique natural creation that can also be part of an amazing excursion in the area.
